  • ITMO Students Win a Grant from Gazprom Neft for Their Project on Abandoned Cars

    At the end of 2019, the results of a scholarship competition organized by ITMO University in collaboration with Gazprom Neft were announced. Among the winners is a team of ITMO University students, who came up with a comprehensive solution to the problem of abandoned cars, which involves their search, sorting and recycling. The students took first place in their track and were awarded a grant of 70,000 rubles. In this interview with ITMO.NEWS, they share their experiences of working on the project and their thoughts regarding the issue of abandoned cars.

  • ITMO University Team Wins 3rd CTF Russian Cup

    The final round of the 3rd CTF Cup, a national competition in the field of information security, has come to an end at the Skolkovo Innovation Center. Winners of regional CTF competitions and developers of CTF games came together to determine which Russian team is the strongest. Taking part in the Cup were 15 teams, including winners of such prominent competitions such as RuCTF, CyBRICS, NordCTF and others. But it was ITMO University’s team that took the first place of the large-scale tournament.

  • Student of the Year Contest: Four ITMO University Students Become Laureates

    On November 25, the finals of the Student of the Year contest were held in the concert hall of St. Petersburg State University of Industrial Technologies and Design. This year, almost 200 St. Petersburg students submitted their applications in 12 nominations. A total of 36 made into the final round, including four ITMO University students.

  • ITMO University and Gazprom Neft Launch New Scholarship Competition

    ITMO University students are invited to participate in a new scholarship competition organized by ITMO’s Faculty of Technological Management and Innovations in collaboration with Gazprom Neft and win a grant for the best startup project. The competition is held in three rounds. During the final round, which will be held in December, the participants will present their projects to the jury, made up of representatives of the university and experts from the industry.   • Gennady Korotkevich Wins 2019 Topcoder Open Competition in Two Tracks

    The results of this year’s Topcoder Open Competition have recently been announced in Houston. The competition brings together programmers and developers from all over the world and consists of six tracks, including Marathon and Algorithm. These are the tracks that ITMO University graduate and PhD student Gennady Korotkevich took first place in, thus becoming the first participant who came first in two tracks at once.

  • ITMO Student Wins in Special Nomination of Huawei Honor Cup

    Lena Ilyina is a third-year student at ITMO University’s Information Technologies and Programming Faculty. In the future, she sees herself as a developer, but it so happened that her participation in the Huawei Honor Cup contest was as part of the nomination “PR (ICT Observer)”. All the more notably, her participation brought her victory.   • ITMO’s Robotics Team Wins Silver at World Robot Olympiad 2019

    The 2019 World Robot Olympiad, an international robotics competition for talented school and university students from over 70 countries, has just come to a close in the city of Győr, Hungary. Led by coach Igor Lositsky, ITMO University whizzes took second place, surpassing more than 30 teams in the Senior High age category. They presented their project LEGO Education Helper, a smart table that cleans itself.

  • ITMO University Team Wins ICPC Regional Quarter-Finals

    Last weekend, ITMO University hosted the qualifying round of the Russian Programming Competition for School Children and the quarter-finals of the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) for students. The events brought together the best young programmers from the North-West of Russia, who competed for the chance to participate in the next rounds of the competitions. ITMO.NEWS attended the tournament and found out what tasks the participants had to solve, as well as how many teams will represent ITMO University at the regional semi-final round of ICPC for students.

  • Gennady Korotkevich Becomes Three-Time Winner of Facebook Hacker Cup

    In late October, the Facebook Hacker Cup 2019 open championship in programming came to an end at Facebook’s Dublin headquarters. ITMO’s PhD student Gennady Korotkevich, who won the championship in 2014 and 2015, has become its champion for the third time. In the final round, the programmer solved all six tasks faster than his competitors.

  • Open Doors Competition for Tuition-Free Master’s Studies in Russia: ITMO to Coordinate Computer & Data Science Track

    The organizing committee of the Open Doors international competition has announced the start of the qualification round, which is a portfolio contest, for international prospective Master’s students wanting to study in Russia. 2019 will be the third year that the competition has been hosted. ITMO.NEWS met with Polina Petrusha, Advisor to First Vice Rector, to find out how many winners of last year’s Open Doors enrolled at ITMO, what is needed to pass the portfolio round, and how this year’s competition will differ from the previous ones.
