  • Russian School Students Score a Resounding Victory at the 2019 International Olympiad in Informatics

    A team of Russian school students helmed by coaches from the country’s leading universities has won four gold medals becoming best in the team event at the 2019 International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI). In IOI’s individual event, Russia’s Ildar Gainullin posted the world’s second-best result. One of the most prestigious computer science competitions in the world, this year’s Olympiad is being held on August 4-11 in Baku, Azerbaijan.

  • 15 Talented Prospective Students Become Winners of 2019 ITMO.STARS Unique Achievements Contest

    The results of this year’s ITMO.STARS – a competition for prospective students with unique accomplishments – are in, with 15 participants being awarded free tuition at ITMO University’s program of their choice and the number of application doubling from last year’s. Launched in 2018, the initiative aims to offer talented and motivated high schoolers an opportunity to enroll at ITMO even if their Unified State Exam scores wouldn’t normally allow them to.

  • Results are In: Online Round of ITMO University’s CtF Competition CyBRICS Comes to an End

    More than 750 teams from around the world took part in the recent online round of CyBRICS, a large-scale computer security competition for participants from the BRICS countries: Brazil, India, China, South Africa, and Russia. As one of the event’s organizers, ITMO University will receive the winners of the qualifying round when they come to St. Petersburg in September to compete in the final round. The competition is developed and run by members of the SPbCTF community.

  • ITMO University Takes Second Place at RoboCup 2019

    On July 7, the Australian city of Sydney hosted the biggest international robotics competition RoboCup 2019. Representing Russia was ITMO University’s Youth Robotics Laboratory with their new robot ELSA, a beautiful humanoid playing the flute. ITMO team took second place in the OnStage Advanced category and first place in the RoboCup SuperTeam Challenge category.

  • Develop a Course in General Physics and Join ITMO Team

    ITMO University’s Faculty of Physics and Engineering invites lecturers to take part in a competition on the development of general physics courses for the university’s Bachelor’s students.   • Roscosmos Opens Admissions for Astronauts

    At the end of spring, the Roscosmos State Corporation for Space Activities launched an open call for astronauts-to-be. As before, the selection is competition-based. The application deadline is June 1, 2020, which goes in line with Roscosmos’ plan to form a new team of astronauts by the end of 2020. Among the most sought-after specialists are physicians, engineers and pilots. What is also remarkable is that the competition commission wants the new team to be more gender-balanced, so women are actively encouraged to apply. The selection process will last for two years and result in 4-6 new astronauts joining the Roscosmos team. Read on to learn more about the competition and application process.

  • ITMO Students Win Competition of 2019 International Conference on Robotics and Automation

    ICRA is IEEE Robotics and Automation Society’s flagship international conference on robotics and automation. Hosted on May 20-24 in Montreal, Canada, this year’s conference included a new addition to its program, AI Driving Olympics, which is a contest on applying AI to the operation of self-driving cars. Representing the project JetBrains Research, the team JBRRussia emerged as the absolute winner of the competition. The team, which was headed by Kirill Krinkin, consisted of nine members, five of them students of ITMO University’s Faculty of Control Systems and Robotics.

  • ITMO University Teams Take the Crown at Yauza CTF-2019, RealCTF and FaustCTF Cybersecurity Competitions

    ITMO University teams came in top places at the cybersecurity competitions Yauza CTF-2019 (gold, silver and bronze), RealCTF (silver and bronze) и FaustCTF (the SPbCTF team emerged second).   • Mile of Technology Contest in Ilmenau: ITMO Team Emerges Third in Drone Race

    Held by the Ilmenau University of Technology, Mile of Technology is an eminent robotics competition setting the stage for a technology-themed festival attended by over 15,000 visitors each year. This year’s competition took place in early May, with ITMO University’s robotics team, who received a special invitation to participate, placing third in the Drone Race track.   • Gennady Korotkevich Wins Sobaka.Ru Magazine Award

    Sobaka.ru, a magazine about urban life, has recently announced the laureates of the Top-50 Famous People in St. Petersburg award in the Science and Life category. Among the winners is ITMO University PhD student Gennady Korotkevich, the champion of multiple international programming competitions. The awards ceremony will take place at the Sevkabel Port on June 5.
