    Nowadays, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are actively studied and used for cleaning and detection purposes, as well as for recording and storage of data. For the most part, they’re synthesized using conventional methods, which require lots of resources. As an alternative, scientists from ITMO’s School of Physics and Engineering suggest a quicker and more efficient method – microfluidic synthesis of metal-organic frameworks using chips. Potentially, it can be used for targeted drug delivery.

  • Empathy Is Key: Charity Hospital Founder Talks Street Medicine and Helping the Homeless

    As a doctor, Sergey Ievkov worked with critical-condition infants. But four years ago, he quit his job and quite literally took to the streets – to help the homeless, who are otherwise nearly unable to receive qualified medical assistance. This was the origin of Charity Hospital (Благотворительная больница), a project staffed by 100+ volunteers, doctors, paramedics, and medical students who help homeless people by treating injuries, distributing medicine, and giving vaccine shots. This October, the project’s team organized an event during which they provided patients with cataract and glaucoma screenings, as well as eyeglass prescriptions. We spoke to Sergey about street medicine, personal choice, empathy, and staying involved when others look the other way.

  • U.S. News Names ITMO Top Russian University in Six Subject Areas

    This Tuesday, October 25, the media company U.S. News & World Report published the latest versions of its general and subject rankings of the world’s universities. In addition to entering the top 10 list of Russian universities in the general ranking, ITMO University is also included in ten subject-specific lists of top universities. In six of these rankings, the St. Petersburg-based university received the highest rating of all Russian institutions.

  • ITMO’s Team Wins Hackathon at International RoboFinist Festival

    Team BE2RLab from ITMO’s Faculty of Control Systems and Robotics became the winner at the hackathon held by StarLine company. The competition took place at the international robotics festival RoboFinist. ITMO students managed to program a robotic platform and successfully helped a blind robot get out of a maze.

  • ITMO Student Wins National ArtMasters Competition

    ArtMasters is a specialized competition that aims to discover and support professionals in creative industries. Among the event’s partners are leading Russian cultural institutions, ministries, and media companies. This year, Daniil Zuyev, a Bachelor’s student in computer technologies in design, won in the category Virtual Worlds Design, receiving half a million rubles in grant money and landing an internship at the virtual technologies department of Ostankino Television Technical Center.
