Things to Do in St. Petersburg: January 13-14
The long winter holidays are over - but that doesn’t mean that all that’s left for you to do is study! Rest is always important, especially after you’ve just had to revert to your routine student days. So, here we are with this year’s first review of Things to Do in St. Petersburg!
First things first, we’d like to share about the city’s novel attraction - the Aerolift that offers an exquisite opportunity to appreciate the beauty of St. Petersburg from a 150-meter skydeck (for comparison, the height of the Colonnade of St. Isaac's Cathedral is just 100). Rise into the sky, feel like a true aeronaut and take unique photos!
An important note: the availability of the ride greatly depends on weather conditions, which can be quite erratic in our city; before planning to go, a good idea will be to check with the project’s website. Unfortunately, it is yet to have an English version, so be sure to turn to your Russian-speaking peers for a little bit of help!
As for the more traditional kinds of entertainment, this week, there’ll be several cultural events that are definitely not to be missed. Following the Modigliani, Soutine, and Other Legends of Montparnasse at the Faberge Museum, two more temporary exhibitions of world-renown artists will take place in St. Petersburg.
The Art Holding Gallery will display a series of sculpture and graphics works by the masters of surrealism - Salvador Dali, Giorgio de Chirico, Hans Bellmer and Leonor Fini, and ArtBank will present the “La Bible” exhibition - more than 60 works by Mark Shagal illustrating the events of the Old Testament.
Yet another chance to appreciate bizarre, yet beautiful art is the exhibition of Edward Bekkerman at the Stroganov Palace. Outlandish and somewhat scary, his works are a true marvel for anyone who’s into these kinds of things.
For music lovers, there’ll be two notable events this weekend. St. Petersburg Jazz Philarmonic Hall will host its New Year’s Festival - an grand annual event commemorating the venue’s birthday; at the same time, the Saint Petersburg Court Chapel will hold the 15th Guitar Virtuoso Festival.
See you next week! Yours, ITMO.NEWS.
