    No one is perfect, but some people still manage to eat a well-balanced plant-based diet, read a gazillion self-development books a month, meticulously reduce, reuse and recycle everything that comes their way, have stress management down to a T, and be totally mindful and present in every moment like the little Buddhas that they are. We are not these people; but in a hopeless attempt to drag ourselves at least an iota closer to that ideal, we’re introducing a new series, The Experiment, in which we try on different parts of an eco-friendly lifestyle and see how painful it is – so that you don’t have to. First up is zero waste living: top, flop, or a lifestyle only befitting to the fairies dwelling in the Neverland? Let’s see to it.

  • Evolutionary Biologist David Seaborg: Science Enriches Our Lives with Fantastic Ideas and Discoveries

    When talking about science, David Seaborg says that the music, art, and theater are important in exciting people and catching their interest about science and scientific issues, such climate change and the extinction crisis. A renowned evolutionary biologist and the son of Nobel Laureate Glenn T. Seaborg, David has founded and currently leads the World Rainforest Fund, a non-profit organization dedicated to saving the rainforest and preserving biodiversity worldwide. This year, David Seaborg will speak at the 4th International Conference on the Periodic Table that will take place at ITMO University. We talked to the scientist about the usefulness Periodic Table, the promising potential of alternative energy sources, and why establishing a dialog between politicians and society is so important.

  • ITMO Team Wins First Place at National Robotics Olympiad

    From June 23 to 25 the final stage of the Russian Olympiad in Programming of Intelligent Robotic Systems was held for the fourth time in the city of Innopolis (Republic of Tatarstan). The Olympiad features contestants from all over the country and thus serves as the Russian qualification round for the World Robot Olympiad. ITMO University’s team and their forest pathologist robot Forester secured the first place in one of the competition’s categories.
