  • For the Benefit of the Environment: ITMO Specialists Develop Biodegradable Food Packaging and Nutritious Plant-Based Food

    Specialists from ITMO University’s School of Biotechnology and Cryogenic Systems work on a wide range of projects that are highly promising for the refrigeration, food, and waste processing industries. For instance, at the moment the scientists at the Faculty of Food Biotechnologies and Engineering are developing biodegradable coatings and packaging for food products and working on the creation of food products for different consumer categories, including vegetarians and vegans. The latter two projects are headed by Natalia Yakovchenko, senior lecturer at ITMO University.   • School Students from All Over Russia and Belarus Take Part in the Congress of Young Scientists

    The Congress of Young Scientists took place on April 15-18 at ITMO University. This year, school and university students presented their research online. Ten sections for school students were attended by 118 participants from 34 cities all over Russia and Belarus. Their young age didn’t stop the participants from conducting real scientific research with the help of their advisors. We asked some of the students what their projects are about, how they liked the online format, and what they want to work on in future.

  • Arctic Snacks: ITMO University Researchers Develop Functional Foods for Far North Regions

    Regions of the Far North make up more than half of Russia’s total area. A large part of these territories is found in the Arctic zone, where environmental conditions present a serious challenge to the inhabitants. The issue of nutrition is a major one in these areas, especially for people involved in demanding physical work. A group of graduate and postgraduate students from ITMO University are developing a solution to the issue in the form of a balanced ready-to-eat meals for consumption in cold weather conditions. The project has recently been showcased during the 11th Eurasian Science Forum “25 Years of Eurasian Integration: Origins, Realities, Potential”.
