• Limitless Fashion: Developing Adaptive Clothing For The Disabled

  The Limitless Fashion project was founded in 2016 by Valeria Kudrina, a student of Saint-Petersburg State University of Industrial Technologies and Design who’d been working with disabled people for several years by then. Some time later, she was joined by Polina Andreeva, her peer. The two students who studied on a costume design program started to develop a project on designing adaptive clothing for wheelchair users of different ages. The project got second place in the People Need You! federal contest conducted by ITMO’s Volunteer Center, and got into Tommy Hilfiger’s selection of top-20 socially important projects. In an interview for ITMO.NEWS, Polina Andreeva spoke about how their project helps integrate handicapped people into society.

Surely not, believes Konstantin Karmanchik, advisor to ITMO's Innovations Office and founder of the CLMI venture integrator. Big Data, machine learning and artificial intelligence - all of that will soon allow any user to suit up in two clicks, as well as help designers to better understand the market's demands. In an interview with ITMO.NEWS, Mr. Karmanchik shared about what new fashion-startups should be like, what technologies will revolutionize the industry and how ITMO's research can contribute to that.

• Dynamically Lit Jewelry and Smart Backpacks: the Fashion of the Future by ITMO Students

  The history of "smart" clothing for the general public takes us back to the 90s, when the fashion sector started to experiment with electronics. A good example of that is the ICD+co jacket that was created by Levi Strauss&Co in collaboration with Phillips: the jacket was fixed with an MP3 player, a cellphone, headset and a control panel. Even before that, in the end of the 19th century, there also were attempts to combine clothing and electric elements: for instance, ballet dancer costumes fixed with electric light bulbs. As for today's market of smart clothing, it offers devices that not only have great design and usability, but have social functions as well.
