The Future Technologies Forum: Computing and Communication. The Quantum World took place in Moscow on July 9-14. Experts from all across Russia got together to discuss the development trends of new technologies and their application in Russian industrial companies. President Vladimir Putin took part in the plenary session of the forum.

In his presentation at the event, the head of ITMO’s Laboratory for Quantum Communications noted the importance of supporting young specialists in the field. According to him, such support should not be limited to just grants and scholarships but should also include mortgage benefits as well as draft deferments.

“Quantum communications is the science of the young. Breakthrough research is conducted by students and researchers under 40,” underlined Vladimir Egorov. He also added that by 2030, this field will need over 1,400 more specialists with a degree, and this number doesn’t account for those who will enter this field via professional development programs.

“Additional measures of social support will further facilitate the development of quantum communications, as well as help us retain and attract even more young specialists,” he believes.

In response to this proposition, the head of state said that “one can only agree with this” and that young scientists should be supported.

The Future Technologies Forum: Computating and Communication. The Quantum World took place within the framework of the Decade of Science and Technologies in the Russian Federation that was declared in 2022. The forum is managed by the Roscongress Foundation with support from the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media and the Russian Academy of Sciences.
