Just as everything else at the first non-classical university, the graduation promises to be a departure from the traditional exercises. Kicking off with a celebratory midday cannon shot off the Narishkin Bastion, it will span well into the evening with a Science Slam, boat rides on the Neva, and a concert by “Frukti” band.

There’ll still be caps and gowns, though, which in itself is a novelty in Russia.

Here’re the five things you need to know:

1. Arrive early. If you’re graduating, arrive at least 30 minutes before the scheduled time for your Department to receive their diplomas.

2. Check out interactives. Have your photo taken with St. Petersburg’s top sites, sample innovative ice cream or indulge your love of research at Science Slam, a stand-up version of a popular project.

3. Bring an umbrella. The weather forecast says intermittent clouds, which is a nice way to say “rain”. This is St. Petersburg, baby!

4. Rock your school spirit. Got your ITMO t-shirt or hoodie? Feel part of the family! There’s still time to stock up at ITMO Store.

5. Watching from home? Check out the online broadcast. After all, it’s ITMO.live!
