One of the main targets of the Workshop is setting up scientific bonds between young scientists from Russia and the United Kingdom.

“Formerly terahertz radiation characteristics were unsearched. Now this spectral region can be researched carefully owing to modern technologies. This workshop joins representatives of industrial companies and scientists from the largest universities like Cambridge, Exeter, Imperial College London, The University of Liverpool, Queen Mary University of London and others. I think that this workshop is a basis for future Russian-British cooperation in the areas of science and technology,” Dr. Robert Donnan, the lector of Queen Mary University, says.

Daria Kozlova, the head of the Institute of International Development and Partnership of ITMO University participated in the opening ceremony. “This workshop is very important for “ITMO goes global” concept. Organizing such events we confirm our status of active participant of international partnership projects.

The employees of the Chair of Nano-Photonics and Metamaterials organized the Workshop with the assistance of the Russian Foundation for Basic Research and The Royal Society of London.

“Nowadays the terahertz radiation research is applied in different fields as medicine, safety and communication. For example, terahertz radiation can be used in ultra-powerful terahertz lasers and sensitive detectors,” says Pavel Belov, the chair of the organizing committee, the head of the Chair of Nanophotonics and Metamaterials.

Apart from scientific reports the program of the workshop includes visiting “Tydex” Inc. “Tydex” is one of the best companies in the field of terahertz optics production. Taking the tour the young scientists will see how the up-to-date technologies are turned into reality.
