On Friday, August 15, the final of a major international programming contest was held in Los Angeles. The contest has been organized by Google since 2003 to identify talented young people and the search for new employees. This year, students of the ITMO University Gennady Korotkevich and Eugene Kapun have won the first and second place of the prestigious tournament.

Google Code Jamannually attracts more than 20,000 participants, but only top 25 get to the final. At this time, programmers from the United States, Japan, China, Korea, Russia, Brazil, Czech Republic, Ukraine, Poland, Bulgaria and Belarus have entered the final. Finalists had to solve a number of algorithmic problems within a certain time, using any programming language.

For Gennady Korotkevich it is far not the first experience of participating in Google Code Jam. Last year, he also reached the final, but could not eventually take part in it.

The second place was taken by a graduate student of the ITMO University Eugene Kapun. Bronze went to the Chinese programmer Yuchzhou Gu.

It should be noted that for Gennady and Eugene August of this year was extremely successful. Recently, they took part in the finals of Yandex.Algorithm held in Berlin, another international competition for sports programming, where Gennady Korotkevich won for the second time in a row. Formerly within a part of the university team Gennady and Eugene became champions of the most famous student programming contest ACM-ICPC (2009, 2012, 2013.).

Significant progress of students at the prestigious international competitions attests to the high quality of teaching at the ITMO University and confirms its leading position in the domestic and global level.
