28,635 students from different universities of Russia and the CIS members took part in the Olympiad in the 2017-2018 academic year.

39 students were from ITMO University. They have completed the tasks in the field of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science. The tasks themselves came in the form of internet testing. The Olympiads in Computer Science and Statistics were held at the university and regional levels and the Mathematics Olympiad had a final national round. This final round was held on May 17-18, 2018 at Volga State University of Technology in Yoshkar-Ola, Russia, Ariel University, Israel and University of Primorska in Koper, Slovenia. This year the list of participants included not only Russian students but also those from many other countries around the globe. For example, the final round of the Olympiad that was held at Volga State University of Technology included 94 students from 55 universities in Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Slovenia.

Maksim Barkalov from the Information Systems department came home as the absolute winner of the regional round of the Computer Science Olympiad with the maximum number of points. Another first prize winner, this time in Statistics, is Anastasiya Perepelyuk from the Department of Customs and Logistics.

The final round of the Mathematics Olympiad was held offline, with the students presenting their solutions in written form and an international jury evaluating their work. The ITMO student team from the Computer Technologies department (Maria Popyrkina, Dmitry Belikov and Nikolai Budin) took second place and was invited to the Mathematics Super Final which will take place in Ariel University in Israel this October. Dmitry and Maria had already won first and second place respectively at the Super Final last year.

Taking into account the results of the Olympiad of the 2017-2018 academic year, the Organizing Committee has honored ITMO University with the title “Winner of the Open International Internet Olympiad 2018”.

The participants were trained by Professors Igor Popov and Alexander Ryzhkov from the Department of Advanced Mathematics and Irina Popova from the Department of Financial Strategy.
