This year the meeting took place in National University of Science and Technology MISiS on November 18. Having discussed Academic Career Day experts came to the point that it would be the main tool of making science and higher education popular. It is planned to give universities, research centers and labs an opportunity to share their vacancies so as to attract young and skilled researchers. According to its` organizers, the Day will contribute to academic mobility and communication processes between research centers and employment agencies. The first pilot Academic Career Day took place with the assistance of Tomsk State University in Tomsk on November 12.

“Currently universities make great strides by launching research labs and centers as well as developing new promising fields and projects. Thus to work on them a skilled staff is necessary. Thanks to Academic Career Day universities and centers can attract new experts,” noted Stanislav Kushelev, head of the HRM and Fundraising Department.

Academic Career Day will include exhibition stands presented by leading Russian universities as well as online services that will simplify communication with specialists from all over Russia.

Nowadays “Candidate Pool” working group works out a detailed plan of Academic Career Day. The group includes representatives of HRM Departments of Universities that take part in “5-100” Russian Academic Excellence Project.

“Universities didn`t use to develop their personnel policies for a long time,” said Tatiana Klimova, head of Staff Development Department of Tomsk State University. “We see that modern universities should attract well-qualified experts by providing different activities. Academic Career Day is one of them. It gives an opportunity to make career at universities more popular with youth.”

Previously Dmitry Livanov, Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, noted that one of key elements of National Science Policy of Russia is an activity connected with job placement of researchers.
