  • ITMO Fellow Ahmed Eldeeb on Working in Russia and Becoming a PI at 28

    Ahmed Eldeeb decided to become a scientist when he was still at school. Though his family wanted him to pursue a career in engineering, medicine, or programming, the future researcher was so passionate about biotechnology and DNA/RNA technologies that, eventually, his dream brought him to ITMO University. Now the head of a frontier laboratory at the university’s SCAMT Institute, he develops DNA robots for cancer gene therapy and viral diagnostics. In this interview, Ahmed Eldeeb gives an insight into what it's like to build a lab from scratch and lead a team of 23 as a young PI.

  • Dr. Carlos Cabal From University of Havana on the Future of MRI

    Prof. Cabal’s research group from the University of Havana, Cuba, learned to build their own magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners thirty years ago – back then, those were the only available MRI machines in the country. Today, Dr. Carlos Cabal is one of leading MRI experts with a long history of successful collaboration with ITMO University. Starting 2016, the researcher has been delivering a specialized course for future physicists twice a year and soon, he will join the university’s school of MRI as one of the keynote speakers. In this article, Prof. Cabal shares his views on the future of MRI and explains why he thinks ITMO has all the potential to break new grounds in this field.

  • Konstantin Fursov On Best Formats for Developing Science Communication

    For more than 15 years Konstantin Fursov has been engaged in research in the fields of science and technology. Some of his interests are the sociology and statistics of science, scientometrics, and public perception of science and innovations. Last year, Konstantin was invited to take the post of deputy head of research and education at the Polytechnic Museum and more recently he has joined ITMO’s Center for Science Communication through the ITMO Fellowship & Professorship program.
