  • Startup Connect: International Schools, Business Competitions, and Russian-Finnish Accelerators

    After almost three years of operation, the Startup Connect, a joint project of Russia and Finland, has come to an end. It is funded by the European Union, the Russian Federation, and the Republic of Finland. During this time, ITMO University and the South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences (XAMK) have organized several startup festivals, international schools, and business camps.

  • Creating a University of the Future in Seven Days: Big Challenges Summit in Sochi

    From October 28 to November 3, the Russian city of Sochi hosted the “Big Challenges for Society, State and Science” summit. Organized by the educational center “Sirius”, the event annually brings together talented students and young PhD researchers from all over the country. This year, the summit’s participants not only attended lectures and workshops by leading tech companies, but also developed their own projects for a university of the future in just seven days. Helping them in this endeavor was a team of ITMO University specialists, ten experts in the fields of science communication, cybersecurity, sociology of science, biotechnologies and cyberphysical systems.   • ITMO University in Top 20 of Times Higher Education Eurasia Rankings

    ITMO University took a prestigious 15th place in the inaugural 2018 Times Higher Education Eurasia Rankings featuring the leading research-intensive universities of the Eurasia region. ITMO got an even higher recognition nationally, ranking 10th amongst Russian higher education institutions. THE Eurasia Rankings 2018 were announced at the Times Higher Education summit concluding today, August 31, in the Russian city of Kazan.

  • Mountaineers Name Peak After ITMO University

    This summer, Vadim Veiko, head of ITMO University’s Department of Laser Technologies and Systems, who has been a mountaineer for more than 50 years, and Alexei Orudzhev, an ITMO alum, engineer and a mountaineering club trainer, have successfully climbed an unexplored peak in the Pamir Mountains, located at 4729 meters above the sea level. The previously unnamed mountain, located near the Lenin Peak, now bears the name of ITMO University Peak. In an interview with ITMO.NEWS, Veiko speaks about their journey, routes, riding on horseback, lasers and volcanoes.
