  • NTI Olympiad Winner Vsevolod Kosarev: The Best Prize is Knowing Where to Go Next

    The National Technological Initiative (NTI) olympiad for high school and Bachelor’s students has been held since 2015 and is part of the national program for technological development. Among its organizers are more than 30 Russian universities, including ITMO University, Skoltech, Moscow Polytechnic University, MIPT, St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, Tomsk Polytechnic University, and others. This year, more than 200 university and 1,200 school students took part in the final stage, with over 50,000 applications submitted in total. Among the winners (as part of team Antares) was Vsevolod Kosarev, a first-year student at ITMO University’s Faculty of Infocommunication Technologies. In this interview with ITMO.NEWS, Vsevolod told us about the competition, working on smart enterprise systems, and how the online format changed the team’s approach to their project.

  • Smart Urban Environment: ITMO University Holds First Professional Development Course for Staff of Sevastopol State University

    Aiming to help the participants develop an understanding of the development of the smart city concept in Sevastopol, the course emerged as a result of a cooperation and partnership agreement between the two universities.   • Light in the City: How Light Affects Our Mood and Emotions

    May 16 is celebrated globally as the International Day of Light. Established by UNESCO, it is a global initiative that provides a platform for the continued appreciation of light and the role it plays in science, culture, and art. To commemorate this day, Mikhail Ivanov, a lighting designer and chief expert on urban lighting projects at the Strelka design bureau, gave an open lecture at the State Russian Museum’s Multimedia Center about the key factors one needs to consider when developing good urban lighting solutions.

  • SightSafari.City: Great Walking Routes in Every Part of the City

    Isn’t it great to gaze at some tourist attractions while walking home from work? Especially, in the summer, when it’s warm and sunny. But finding a route that would be short and interesting at the same time can be quite a drag, and we often end up choosing the shortest possible way. Egor Smirnov, a research associate at ITMO’s Institute of Design & Urban Studies, has developed a route generation algorithm called SightSafari.City, which is already available in St. Petersburg and other Russian cities, as well as in Belarus and Ukraine.

  • Smart St. Petersburg: Citizens Will Help Shape the City’s Future

    How can citizens address urban development challenges and let officials know about their problems? That’s what the “Smart St. Petersburg” project is about. The project aims to make the city more comfortable for all categories of citizens, and the main idea is that it’s the citizens themselves who should decide what needs to be done in the city.
