  • Scientists Propose a Carbon Dot-Based Method for Increasing the Efficiency of Solar Cells and LED

    An international group of scientists, including some from ITMO University, has proposed a method that allows for significantly increasing the efficiency of solar cells and light-emitting diodes. The scientists managed to achieve this result by augmenting the auxiliary layers of the devices responsible for electron transport rather than working with the main active layer. The work has been published in the journal Advanced Functional Materials.

  • A Look at Russia’s First Master’s Program on LED Technologies

    LED technologies are quickly taking over from incandescent lamps and other non-power-efficient light sources. Intelligent lighting is an integral part of smart cities, and concepts of lighting design, light quality, light pollution and others are becoming more and more recognizable. ITMO University’s Master’s program “LED Technologies” teaches students to work on the issues of a new, rapidly developing industry. Starting in their first year, students get to work on actual cases for various companies at the university’s laboratories, as well as to learn about the industry during practical training. Vladislav Bougrov, head of ITMO’s School of Photonics, explains how Russia’s first-ever specialized LED technology program works and what opportunities await its graduates.

  • ITMO University Revamps its Master’s Program in Optoelectronics

    ITMO University’s Master’s program in Optoelectronics is ready for a fresh start starting from the next academic year. Cutting edge technologies and on-the-job experience will be the focus of the new educational program developed by a group of leading companies in the sector. The occasion will introduce an educational experiment in Optoelectronics, the first of its kind, in Russia. Dmitry Bauman, Professor at the Department of Light Technologies and Optoelectronics and Director for Research at INTER RAO LED Systems will head the new program. Speaking at the St. Petersburg International Educational Forum, Mr. Bauman told the audience what kind of specialists the program will train.
