Representatives of the marketing division of Gazprom Neft, one of the country’s leading fuel companies, presented an internship program at ITMO University that offers students in the field of IT, data and economic analysis an opportunity to get some practical experience and a chance to land a job at the company. ITMO.NEWS talked to the company’s representatives and learned what awaits students at the GPN Intelligence Cup case championship, what competencies an intern has to have, and what other ways are there to get a job at Gazprom Neft for an IT specialist.
Each year, ITMO University students discover the world as part of academic exchanges and research internships at a wide range of international universities. This year, several Master’s students of ITMO’s ChemBio Cluster worked on projects in state-of-the-art laboratories at universities in Belgium, Germany, and Israel. ITMO.NEWS spoke to the students to find out more about their projects and lessons they learned from being part of international research groups.
This July, students of ITMO’s Informational Technologies and Programming Faculty Nikita Losovetin and Nikita Savilov participated in Start-Up China, an internship program for entrepreneurs at the Neusoft University in Dalian, China. In collaboration with their international colleagues, they worked on developing products from scratch, attended workshops, and strengthened international cooperation. The students spoke to ITMO.NEWS about their experience of spending a month in China and participating in an international program for young entrepreneurs.
In the course of nine months, from October 2018 to July 2019, Oksana Severyukhina and Ivan Derevitsky, PhD students and staff of ITMO University’s National Center for Cognitive Technologies, did an internship at the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. The internship gave them an opportunity to work on their projects at one of the world’s most technologically advanced university campuses, as well as travel a lot and establish some useful connections.
From May to September 2019, ITMO University Master’s student Antonina Dadadzhanova is doing a research internship at the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel. Her research is dedicated to the so-called stabilizer molecules, which are capable of destroying cancer cells when exposed to light or ultrasound. Charles Roques-Carmes is a PhD student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) who works under the guidance of Marin Soljačić, a renowned scientist famous for his research in the field of wireless nonradiative energy transfer and various issues of photonics and electromagnetics. The young researcher came to ITMO for a three-month internship in order to work with scientists from the Research Center of Nanophotonics and Metamaterials. Charles stresses that coming to Russia was a well-thought-out decision: here, not only can he work in a promising research field, but he can also practice his Russian which he has been learning since his school days. In an interview with ITMO.NEWS, he spoke about the specifics of working at ITMO University and why the Russian language can often appear harder than studying nanophotonics.
ITMO Master’s Student Yan Koval on His Internship in Denmark and Importance of Public Opinion in Lighting Design
Yan Koval, a second-year Master’s student of ITMO University’s program in Lighting Design has returned from a short-term internship at Aalborg University (Denmark). We spoke to Yan and learned about the differences in Copenhagen and St. Petersburg’s lighting cultures, the importance of public opinion in designing a lighting environment, and how Denmark is making its lighting eco-friendly.
Summer Bridge Scholarship by ITMO’s Russian-French Lab: Join an Interdisciplinary Project and Get Your First Scientific Paper Published
Right after finishing their summer exams, students from ITMO and other universities will have the opportunity to participate in the Summer Bridge Scholarship, a paid internship at ITMO University’s Russian-French Laboratory of Hybrid Crystal Nanophotonics. The organizers will choose a total of 15 interns (Bachelor’s and Master’s students), who will work on fundamental and applied interdisciplinary scientific projects, from developing new types of nanoparticles to creating nanomaterials for long-term storage of foodstuffs and drug delivery. The internship will last for 2.5 months, after which all participants will get a one-time money reward. Other advantages include opportunities to get your article published, experience of working as part of an international team, and enrolling in a joint Russian-French PhD program. Ten students of ITMO University’s Faculty of Infocommunication Technologies and St. Petersburg State University went to China to take part in a two-week internship at the Huawei company. Apart from getting an insight into modern telecommunication systems, they learned about various configuration devices and the future of 5G communication network systems.
