  • ITMO PhD Student Karina Pats on Working in France During the Pandemic

    Karina Pats, a PhD student at ITMO’s Faculty of Information Technologies and Programming, studies the functioning of nuclear receptors using molecular dynamics and docking. She works actively together with the laboratory of Ferdinand Molnár at Nazarbayev University in Kazakhstan where she did her internship last spring. Thanks to the Erasmus+ program, now she got to work on a bioinformatics algorithm project at the University of Lorraine, Nancy (France). ITMO.NEWS talked to Karina Pats to learn more about life in France, new projects and colleagues, as well as landing an internship during the pandemic.

  • Spanish Environmental Biotechnologists on the Environmental Situation, Greta Thunberg and Two-Phase Air Filters

    Two environmental biotechnologists from Valladolid University, Spain came to St. Petersburg to give a course at ITMO University. Right before their departure we got a chance to meet them to talk about ways to improve the environmental situation and how these are different in Russia and Spain, as well as discuss the academic exchange opportunities for Master’s students.

  • ITMO University and University of Lorraine Expand Opportunities for Student and Staff Mobility

    Starting from the new academic year, Master’s and PhD students at ITMO University will be given the opportunity to participate in academic exchanges and internships at the University of Lorraine (Université de Lorraine, UL), one of France’s largest and highest-rated universities. Moreover, ITMO and UL will be able to exchange professors who will give topical lectures on a wide range of subjects. Such an expansion of the mobility opportunities available has been made possible thanks to an Erasmus+ program grant. We spoke to Alexandre Nominé, a senior research associate at ITMO University’s Faculty of Physics and Engineering and ITMO Fellow, to find out more about the cooperation, requirements for participating in the Russian-French mobility program, and its future prospects.

  • Study in Europe With Erasmus+ Program

    Starting from the next academic year, ITMO University students and staff will be able to spend a semester at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, the University of Twente (the Netherlands), and some other universities. Thanks to the Erasmus+ KA107 International Credit Mobility Program, students, lecturers and young researchers (PhD students) can study abroad, while universities can invite leading lecturers. Every year, ITMO University sends dozens of applications for participation in the program together with its European partners, some of which have already been approved.   • How to Harness IoT for Protection of the Environment and Win Grants from the EU

    On June 18 in Brussels, the interuniversity group IoT-open.eu held its final symposium as part of the Erasmus+ grant. As part of the project, scientists from Italy, Poland and other countries collaborated on popularization of the Internet of Things technologies. Russia was represented by specialists from ITMO University. Among them was Alexander Kapitonov, an associate professor at the Faculty of Control Systems and Robotics. He spoke to ITMO.NEWS about the results of the work, future plans for other international projects and prospects of using the Internet of Things for the protection of the environment.

  • Poznan University of Technology’s Agnieszka Barczyk on Collaboration with ITMO

    An employee of the Poznan University of Technology, Agnieszka Barczyk has recently visited ITMO University. Back home, in Poland, she helps students develop projects, find investors, and apply for exchange programs abroad. She herself came to St. Petersburg through the Erasmus+ program and hopes that in the future, this program will be fully available for Russian students as well.

  • Erasmus+: How To Effectively Collaborate With European Universities

    Erasmus+ is a EU program with a budget of more than two billion dollars, which focuses on supporting both individual students and researchers as well as whole universities, research centers and technological companies.   • ITMO Students Presented Summer Schools in Europe

    Maria Semashko and Ksenia Bureiko, Master’s students at the High-Performance Computing Department, took part in a two-week internship — they visited ITMO’s Rep Office in Brussels, Belgium and several universities in European countries where they talked about ITMO’s Summer Schools.
