  • ITMO University Graduate On Working in Public Service and Studies at ITMO

    Elena Senicheva entered ITMO University’s Department of State Information Systems Management thanks to the victory in the Prof-IT Russian regional competition, organized by the E-Government Center. In this competition, local and regional authorities from all over Russia present their IT projects focusing on innovations and IT solutions that can benefit the development of various sectors of the Russian economy. The competition’s winners get a chance to study at ITMO University. Before joining ITMO as a Master’s student, Elena worked for 13 years at the Department of Land and Property Relations in Rostov-on-Don, and after that, she left the public service to work in a commercial company. In this interview with ITMO.NEWS, Elena shares about her university days and how studying at ITMO University changed her life.

  • ITMO University Students Win The Largest Hackathon in History

    On September 27-29, the Russian city of Kazan hosted the final round of the Digital Breakthrough competition for IT specialists, designers, and managers in the field of the digital economy. This event was included in the Guinness Book of Records thanks to the record number of participants. Among the winners were ITMO University students: Kirill Pugin, a student at Information Technologies and Programming Faculty, and Valeria Timofeeva, a Master’s student at the Faculty of Technological Management and Innovations.   • Council for the Development of Digital Economy at ITMO University: Online Education and Russian Universities in Global Top-50

    On March 26, ITMO University hosted the third session of the Council for the Development of Digital Economy at the Federation Council of the Russian Federation. At the center of discussion was the topic “Human Capital as the General Asset of Digital Economy”. The event’s speakers and participants discussed the training and retraining of human resources in the framework of the Digital Economy national program. Particular attention was paid to the issue of regional involvement in the development of human capital for the digital economy, as well as providing Russian citizens with opportunities for lifelong study and avoiding the risks related to the automation of economy.

    More than 20 years ago Nicholas Negroponte, a computer scientist and founder of MIT’s Media Lab, was among the first to use the term “digital economy”. Today these words are often said by politicians, scientists and entrepreneurs. In near future, systematic development of digital economy could make data the new oil, says the Russian Ministry of Communications. But how soon will that occur and what measures need to be taken already? During a recent lecture at the Week of Information Society Technologies 2017, Semyon Schetinin, head of the Russian office of the Boston Consulting Group (BCG), spoke about the effect of digital technology on traditional economics, who “digital talents” are and why authoritarian management style will not fare well in modern companies.
