  • CEO of TuSion on Participating in Startup Festivals

    TuSion is a neurogaming app that helps users develop their cognitive abilities by playing with the power of their minds. The app allows to decrease one’s level of stress and increase productivity. In the past, the team participated in ITMO’s Future Technologies accelerator. Since then, the project has undergone many changes, and its team has participated in many startup festivals and contests. Their members have recently returned from the *ship international festival in Finland where they made it into to the 10 best startup teams, and will soon participate in an acceleration program in New York. We’ve spoken to TuSion’s CEO Andrei Hapsasov and learned how the project changed over time, whether there is any point in participating in contests and conferences, and how to participate effectively.

  • MY.TECH Festival 2018

    Last week, the Ingria Technopark and the Lenpoligraphmash Technopark launched the first MY.TECH Technological Festival that took place in the “Boiling Point” creative space. The program of the festival included 60 events, such as lectures, presentations, panel discussions and an exhibition of IT projects and startups which ITMO University also took part in. The purpose of the festival was to create a platform for communication between startups, business communities, industrial companies, experts, investors and students interested in science.

  • Startup Funbo Offers Educational Courses in eSports

    In January 2018, the startup Funbo began to organize online games where fans could play with professional  cyberathletes . By February, the project’s authors had already conducted about 10 games with different professional players, but they also faced issues that made them consider changing their project’s format. It turned out that the main motivation for playing with an accomplished  cyberathlete  is to learn something new, improve one’s skills, and get valuable advice, which is why the team decided to focus on an educational course that can turn an amateur gamer into a successful professional.

  • Heaven for Startups: Russian and Finnish Experts Discuss Helsinki Business Culture

    How does a startup enter the European market via Finland? How should you present your project to foreign investors? What are the differences between the business community in Helsinki and those in other European cities? Novice entrepreneurs from St. Petersburg found answers to these and other questions during the Helsinki Business Boost, a business course launched by ITMO’s Technopark, Helsinki Centre representative office and Venture Family consulting agency. Participants received personal advice from experts, while the winners received tickets to Arctic 15, a business contacts exchange for startups in the Nordic and Baltic countries, which will take place in Helsinki on May 30-31.

  • Functional Drink to Beat Alcohol Addiction

    Scientists from ITMO’s Department of Food Biotechnology (Vegetable Stock) together with colleagues from St. Petersburg Institute of Experimental Medicine, and St. Petersburg State University’s Department of Biology are currently working on a functional beverage enriched in biologically active components which can beat alcohol addiction. The project is coordinated by Sergey Eresko, a Master’s student at the Department of Biology at SPbU. According to the developers, the beverage is enriched with plant components, which help to reduce ghrelin levels, and thereby suppress alcohol cravings. The team is going to first test the beverage on animals, and then produce a pilot batch.

  • Startup Pallium Promises Smarter AI

    Pallium is a startup working on a platform for rapid learning, safe storage and easy deployment of AI models in a decentralized environment. Pallium is like a "school" where you can train your artificial intelligence or provide data or computing power to teach other AI models in exchange for rewards. Rewards are tokens that can be spent on training other models or withdrawn through an exchange. Pallium is currently a member of the Future Technologies acceleration program at ITMO University’s Business Incubator. How does it work and why do we need it?   • ITMO Students Develop VR Lecture Hall to Replace Onsite Education

    Horum is a virtual lecture hall where users can study any subject they like. The project’s team has been working on this service for more than three months, and they already have a demo lesson accessible to nearly any smartphone released after 2012. What is more, the online service can also be used to access the user’s VR projects and conduct lab work in a remote format. Starting with last year, the project is being accelerated as part of ITMO’s Future Technologies START program.

  • App by ITMO Student will Help Vocational Schools Go Digital

    Back when ITMO student Yaroslav Prikazchikov was training at a vocational school (referred to as “colleges” in Russian) he already thought that it’s really uncomfortable that students have to keep track of changes in their schedule on the college’s website, and the communication with group presidents and fellow students is quite ineffective, so they often fail to receive important information on time. In order to optimize this process, he and his team first developed a chatbot for VK, then a mobile app, but never ceased to work on a better solution. Today, his new project is being accelerated at the Future Technologies accelerator. Several of St. Petersburg’s vocational schools already plan to give  the new  service a try, and in the future, Yaroslav is planning to introduce it in the regions. In an interview for ITMO.NEWS, he shared about his project and the peculiarities of working with vocational schools.

  • ITMO Students’ Project Cryptopus Helps Cryptocurrency Investors Reduce Risks

    According to CoinMarketCap, in December of 2017, the total value of the cryptocurrency market finally surpassed $500 billion. The cryptocurrency market is currently inferior only to the world’s five biggest public companies – Apple, Alphabet, Microsoft, Amazon and Facebook. The past year was also marked by a rapid growth in the number of cryptocurrency exchanges, which continue to attract new users. But how does a newcomer make money on cryptocurrency, save the investors’ money and avoid scammers? Having experienced failure with cryptocurrency himself, ITMO student Alexandr Romanov founded the blockchain marketplace Cryptopus, which aims to establish a network of relationships between investors and traders. The project’s creators spoke to ITMO.NEWS about its features and development.

  • How to Start Your Own Business: Advice from Experts

    ITMO University just hosted an expert session for hardware, high-tech and IT projects of the Future Technologies accelerator. This year, a record-breaking amount of participants made it to the final selection - 25 teams in total. Up until March, they’ll be finalizing their technologies, choosing and testing business models, studying their target audiences and making their first sales. Recently, the novice entrepreneurs’ projects were assessed by experts - founders and CEO’s of companies, specialists on growing markets, the financial sector and marketing.
