  • ITMO Digital Generation Club Wins 5 Million Ruble Grant From Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education

    According to the results of the national contest among scientific student clubs, forty universities were granted financial support from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. The contest’s leaders, among which are ITMO University, Lomonosov Moscow State University, the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI, and the National University of Science and Technology (MISiS), received 5 million rubles to build a community of young professionals in artificial intelligence.

  • ITMO in Top-Three of Potanin Foundation Scholarship Contest

    The Vladimir Potanin Foundation recently announced the winners of its scholarship contest for Master’s students – this year, 61 ITMO University students were included in the list. Starting from February 2022 and until the end of their Master’s studies they, as well as other winners, will receive a monthly stipend of 25,000 rubles. In total, students from 75 Russian universities took part in the contest. ITMO and Lomonosov Moscow State University share second place in the amount of their students who were granted the scholarship this year.

  • $3,000 for a Special Kid’s Drawing: How ITMO Student Uses NFT Auctions for Charity

    In the summer of 2021, Daniil Zuyev, a student at ITMO’s Computer Technologies in Design Bachelor’s program, created the Osobenny Mir (A Special World) project based on the drawings created by children from the Yom-Yom inclusive center. A charity project by design, Osobenny Mir donates half of its revenue from NFT auctions to the center. However, unexpectedly, it also opened the world of contemporary art to Daniil – selected works were showcased at a virtual exhibition at the Hermitage and the Disartive Art & Tech Fair in Nizhny Novgorod, and one of the drawings was purchased for 230,000 rubles (about $3,000). In this article, Daniil tells us how he decided to combine NFT and charity and what it feels like to suddenly become a contemporary artist.

  • ITMO Student Chosen as St. Petersburg Representative on Ministry of Science and Higher Education’s Student Council

    In the spring of 2021, the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education expressed its support for the establishment of an official body that would be tasked with representing the opinions of students. In December, applicants from among the number of heads of student organizations were selected for the new Student Council. As a result, 82 students were chosen, each representing a federal subject. St. Petersburg is represented by Denis Ovesnov, a student of ITMO University’s School of Translational Information Technologies.

  • Participants of BRIDGE Project Share Their Stories and Achievements

    The international project BRIDGE started out as a research initiative meant to explore the possibility of enhancing university graduates’ presence on the labor market by letting them tackle real-life business challenges during their studies. The project has had six sessions since its launch in 2019. That same year, participants from ITMO University got the chance to travel to Finland, Norway, and Murmansk and recently met for the final session at their alma mater. During the week-long event, students attended lectures on entrepreneurship and project management, as well as tried their hand at solving problems faced by business communities.   • ITMO Students Receive 2.5 Million Rubles Grant for University Development

    On November 27-29, the Sirius Park of Science and Art hosted the final round of the Tvoy Hod (“Your Move” – Ed.) competition.  ITMO University received a 2.5 million rubles grant for having the greatest number of participants who made it to the finals.   • PRO.ITMO Project: Helping Students Find Their Paths at ITMO From Student Clubs to Internships

    Eight years ago, ITMO Rector Vladimir Vasilyev headed the first-ever ITMO bike ride, which has become a beloved tradition of all members of ITMO.Family.     What do you do if you’re out late, your phone’s dead, and you need a ride? Maksim Myagkih, a student at ITMO’s Faculty of Photonics, has designed a prototype of a powered backpack that charges up when you walk. We asked Maksim how fast you’ll need to run to charge your phone, what other devices are compatible with the backpack, and whether it can replace the common portable charger or power bank in the future.
