    Every student who has ever been on exchange knows how hard it can be to adapt to the new surroundings, get all your papers sorted, and adjust to the new timetable and academic process. It’s important to have someone you can ask for help at this time, a friendly face you can look for in a crowd of your new fellow students – and that is where buddies come in to save the day.   • ITMO Researchers' Improved Text Recognition Algorithm Helps Analyze Century-Old Russian Texts

    Staff members of ITMO University’s Digital Humanities Research Center and Laboratory of Machine Learning joined their forces to teach an algorithm to analyze archival texts and identify names, titles, and addresses. Existing algorithms that were developed using contemporary texts often fail to process books and articles from the past, especially ones that are over a century old. ITMO.NEWS got in touch with the researchers to learn more about this achievement and the St. Retrospect project, a map of the city’s historically significant sites for which this research was conducted.

    During his quarantine in the village of Boldino, Alexander Pushkin managed to write an unprecedented amount of works. He finished Eugene Onegin, wrote The Belkin Tales, Little Tragedies and over thirty poems and other works in the three-month period.   • Andrei Gomez: Learn English to Get the Most Out of Life

    Andrei Gomez De Oliveira Giovanni is a Master’s degree student in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology at ITMO University. He is currently doing an internship at Embrapa Genetic Resources and Biotechnology (Brazil) where, under the supervision of Dr. Dmitry Kolpashchikov, his team is developing quantitative logic-gated DNA nanomachines designed to treat cancer. Andrey’s research focuses on improving the CRISPR-Cas9 methodologies to edit the bovine genome.
