• Light, Health, and Interior Design: LIGHT4HEALTH Summer School at ITMO

  The first summer school of the LIGHT4HEALTH project has ended. Students of ITMO University’s Master’s programs Lighting Design and Industrial Design, as well as students of four partner universities have completed the course hosted by the University of Wolverhampton. Students were given five days to learn how seemingly ordinary home lighting can affect people's lives and health from a scientific and practical perspective. At the end of the course all students presented their own lighting projects, which they created with actual living conditions of the UK’s households in mind.

• Camp in Programming: Intense Problem-Solving

  The annual summer Camp in Programming welcomes students from all over the world who get hands-on experience and theoretical knowledge in programming and machine learning. This year, the challenge was accepted by students from Luxemburg, USA, Azerbaijan, Venezuela, China, India, and Russia. We caught up with some of them to talk about their experience here.

• First Summer School of International Project LIGHT4HEALTH

  From July 29 to August 2, 2019, the first summer school of the international project LIGHT4HEALTH will be held as part of the Erasmus+ Strategic Partnership program. The project’s consortium includes ITMO University (Russia), Thomas Jefferson University (the US), University of Wolverhampton (the UK), and three leading European schools in the field of light design: Aalborg University (Denmark), Hochschule Wismar (Germany) and KTH Royal Institute (Sweden). In line with the overall focus of LIGHT4HEALTH, the first summer school will be dedicated to harnessing the power of light to bring about a positive impact on human health.

• Summer Camp in Optical System Design: Teaching Students Practical Skills

  This summer, ITMO University held the Camp in Optical System Design for the fifth consecutive year. It welcomed participants from Turkey, Germany and Belarus, as well as from other Russian universities. • Participants of ITMO Summer School on Topological Photonics on the Latest Trends in the Field

  ITMO University’s International Research Center for Nanophotonics and Metamaterials has recently hosted the Summer School on Topological Photonics. In the course of five days, young researchers – Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD students – listened to lectures by leading specialists from Russia, Europe, the US, and Korea. The event brought together over 60 participants from many Russian cities, as well as Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the UK, Mexico, Turkey, and other countries. The school was followed by the 4th International Conference on Metamaterials and Nanophotonics METANANO 2019.

• International Research Summer Camp in Photonics at ITMO University

• SNAC-2019: Summer School on Nonlinear and Adaptive Control Brings Together Young Scientists From Around the World

  The Saint Petersburg Summer School on Nonlinear and Adaptive Control (SNAC-2019) has just come to a close at ITMO University. Over the course of three days, the world's leading experts in the field delivered lectures on scientific fundamentals and the latest trends. • Phylogenetic Trees and Targeted Cancer Research: Bioinformatics Summer School

  Cancer is one of the most common diseases of our time, and trailblazing bioinformatics research is looking for answers. This rapidly developing scientific field has already come up with effective methods that not only allow to quickly track down genome changes conducive to cancer development, but also pinpoint the factors that catalyze or inhibit this process. These questions were at the center of this year’s Bioinformatics summer school held at the end of July in the green purlieus of St. Petersburg. Participants of this largest national Bioinformatics event conducted high-profile research breaking down medical data of breast cancer patients, analyzing the differential expression of long non-coding RNA in kidney renal cell carcinoma, and building phylogenetic trees that contribute to better understanding of the disease. ITMO.NEWS met the young scientists to talk about their summer school projects and the latest of cancer-focused bioinformatics research.
