  • RTDA Bureau Wins Prestigious International Award for Architectural Plan of ITMO Highpark

    The architectural bureau RTDA, which developed the general architectural plan for the ITMO Highpark innovations center, has won the prestigious A’ Design Award & Competition for their concept of the new ITMO University campus. A’ Design Award is an annual prize that recognizes the best projects on the concept stage, as well as prototypes and finished products already represented on the market. The award is conferred in over 100 nominations in the field of design.

  • Russian Physicist Alexey Melnikov Awarded the Prestigious Cozzarelli Prize

    The annual Cozzarelli Prize acknowledges papers that reflect scientific excellence and originality. Among the 2018 Cozzarelli Prize recipients in the field of physics and mathematics is Russian physicist Alexey Melnikov. His research focuses on quantum machine learning technologies, as well as the development of new machine intelligence methods. The researcher works on a range of projects at the University of Basel (Switzerland), ITMO University, and the Valiev Institute of Physics and Technology of Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow.

  • Three ITMO University Staff Awarded St. Tatiana Badges of Honor

    January 25 is Russian Students Day, also known as Tatiana Day after its patron saint. A celebratory ceremony was held in St. Petersburg’s Smolny Cathedral, during which the most proactive representatives of St. Petersburg’s student and academic community were awarded St. Tatiana badges of honor marking the significance of their contribution to the education and society in St. Petersburg. Among the awardees are three ITMO University staff.

  • Six ITMO University Lecturers Awarded Prize by Government of St. Petersburg

    Last week, the St. Petersburg Committee on Science and Higher Education unveiled the results of a competition for the Government of St. Petersburg’s prizes in the field of science education. Its aim is to boost the youth’s involvement and support the training of young specialists in science and technologies. Several ITMO University staff were recognized for their innovative academic works. ITMO.NEWS met the winners to discuss their achievements and plans for their prizes.

  • Young Scientists From ITMO University Win IEEE Photonics Society Awards

    The IEEE Photonics Society has announced the results of its annual Graduate Student Fellowship Award, and for the first time ever two ITMO University scientists made the list. Among the 2018 recipients of this prestigious prize commemorating high-achieving PhD students for their research are Tel Aviv University PhD student Dmitry Filonov and ITMO University PhD student Alena Schelokova, both Associates of the ITMO International Research and Educational Center for Nanophotonics and Metamaterials.

  • ITMO Professor Xi-Cheng Zhang Is Awarded Alexander von Humboldt Prize

    Xi-Cheng Zhang, head of ITMO’s International Institute of Photonics and Optical Information Technology and a member of ITMO's International Council, received a prestigious Alexander von Humboldt award. Award winners are invited to cooperate on long-term research projects with colleagues at a research institution in Germany.

  • Gennady Korotkevich Named One of St. Petersburg's Best Students

    The 16th annual Awards Ceremony has been recently held in the Peter and Paul Fortress to honor the best graduates of St. Petersburg universities. The Vice-Governor of St.Petersburg Vladimir  Kirillov,  and the representatives of the city's universities gathered to congratulate the young experts. ITMO University was represented by Gennady Korotkevich, a Master’s student at the Computer Technology Department, a multiple  winner  of various programming competitions.

  • ITMO has the Best Science Communicators in Russia

    The team of science communicators from ITMO University won the Grand Prix of the first professional award in the field of science communication in Russia “Communication Laboratory”. The Russian Venture Company together with the Association of Communicators in Education and Science (AKSON) have held the competition since 2017. Specialists in the field of communications as well as teams from universities that use the best techniques in popularising science and creating a dialogue between scientists and the public can win the award.

    According to the May 30 decree, ITMO University’s Rector and head of the Council of St. Petersburg Rectors, Vladimir Vasilyev, was awarded the Order of Alexander Nevsky.

  • ITMO University Professor Awarded for Mentoring

    By order of the President of the Russian Federation, head of the ITMO University Programming Technology Department Anatoly Shalyto was awarded “For Mentoring”. Only three people, including our professor, have received this honorary award, established by the decree of Vladimir Putin on March 2, 2018. The award is given for merits in the professional development of young professionals and active mentoring.
