Spring has finally arrived in St. Petersburg, which means that it’s time for the annual Cherry Blossom Festival, which will take place in the Botanical Garden on May 12-13. Stroll under the sprawling foliage of cherry blossoms and experience a touch of Japan in Russia. Guests will also have a chance to play traditional Japanese games, listen to Japanese music, attend workshops and lectures on Japanese art and culture, and visit one of the Garden’s tropical houses. The entrance fee is 500 rub.
Another major event this weekend is the 16th Korushka Festival. Thousands of kilograms of smelt will be prepared for visitors at the Lenexpo Exhibition Complex on Vasilievsky Island. Guests can try this peculiar fish that has already become an unofficial symbol of the city, as well as take part in various activities and buy fresh fish and local souvenirs. The entrance fee is 300 rub.
And be sure to check out the Handmade Fair at the St. Petersburg Sports and Concert Complex (Metro Park Pobedy, 8 Yu. Gagarina Prospect), where you can purchase various types of handmade crafts, such as clothes with embroidery, silver jewelry with pearls and enameling, ceramic mugs and jars, souvenirs and a million other pretty things made by local craftsmen. The entrance fee is 150 rub (70 rub for students). Don’t miss the opportunity to buy something really unique!
