Alexander Podshivalov applied for the grant last summer when defended his PhD thesis. Currently the researcher works at Chair of IT in the Fuel and Energy Industry. According to the grant agreement the scientist has to present annual experiment reports, publish the results of his research in a top scientific magazine and make his speech at an international conference.

The research is called “Thermodynamic modeling of multicomponent polymeric systems` phase structuring process.” The composite materials researched by the scientist are heterogeneous systems. Observing it through a microscope one can find out clear components` phase boundaries. Interaction of parts initiates various-shaped particles. The development of composite materials includes such processes as joining and separation of particles. Using a special equation researchers determine an interdependence of particles` size and the energy provoked by them.

research of composite materials

“This method of modelling helps to understand principles of composite materials` synthesis as well as characteristics affected material`s structure such as component relations, external conditions and various features of components,” noted the scientists.

According to Mr. Podshivalov, many researchers focus on analyzing of composite materials` structure but it is impossible to research this field more detailed because one uses limited amount of methods that can be used for analyzing of components` distribution in composite materials only. Despite the fact that the research of Russian scientist is fundamental its` results can be useful for a guidance on composite materials manufacturing.

“The main goal of this research is to detect the relation between compound of materials and their properties such as strength, elasticity, gas permeability and others,” said Alexander Podshivalov.
