This Weekend in St. Petersburg: July 21-22

Open violin concerts will be held in St. Petersburg from July 21 till August 4 to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the city’s main street, Nevsky Prospect. The St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra, the Tavrichesky Orchestra and many other renowned musicians will take part in this event, which will be free for visitors! The concerts will take place on Arts Square (Площадь Искусств) from 12pm till 9pm on July 21, 28, 29 and August 4.

More music and poetry can be heard at Mayakovsky Fest, which will take place in the court of Vladimir Mayakovsky Central City Public Library on July 21. Guests will get an opportunity to listen to contemporary music and learn about the poet’s life and work. Entrance is free.

Summer is probably the best time for historical reenactments of all kinds. While last week we told you about the Knights’ Castle Festival in the Vyborg Castle, and the Sentinel on the Neva Festival at the Oreshek Fortress, this weekend you can attend the Battle on the Neva Festival that will take place at the Peter and Paul Fortress! Listen to minstrel songs, watch the knights joust, take part in various workshops and visit a medieval fair with a great selection of handmade jewelry and gifts. Entrance is free.

The Pavlovsk Park, one of the finest landscape parks in Europe, will soon become even more beautiful thanks to the Imperial Bouquet Festival which will be held on July 21-22. Florists and designers will turn the park into the kingdom of flowers! This year’s topic is “Les belles vues — Les fleurs magiques” (Beautiful views — Magical Flowers). Take a stroll through the park, gaze at exquisite floral sculptures and paintings, and watch plays performed by actors from the Mikhailovsky and Mariinsky Theatres. The show kicks off at 12pm on July 21 and July 22. Entrance fee is 250 rub.
