The meeting brought together representatives of St. Petersburg Polytechnic Universityn, Saint Petersburg Electrotechnical University “LETI” and ITMO University.
“All participants of 5-100 Academic Excellence Project change ITMO University significantly by providing reforms of management system as well as organizing international educational projects and focusing on subjects taught in English. We have moved on the second stage of 5-100. Being involved in the project we promote the university to the global international market paying a great attention to students` activities,” noted Vladimir Vasilyev, ITMO University rector.
Heads of St. Petersburg Polytechnic University and Saint Petersburg Electrotechnical University “LETI” noted that St. Petersburg attracted more and more students. Thus studying programs offered by 5-100`s participants enjoy wide popularity among newcomers from Southeast and Central Asia. Moreover their academic mobility programs attract lots of European and American students.
Apart from educational achievements St. Petersburg universities develop corporate culture, upgrade HR strategies and motivate students to take part into projects and extra academic activities. They also buy new equipment for university-based laboratories. According to Andrey Rudskoy, head of St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, it was necessary to partner with influenced colleagues from all over the world. Mr. Rudskoy also noted that thanks to 5-100 Academic Excellence Project the university simplified its complicated structure by joining several departments. Universities` officials suppose Russian higher education needs modular grading and distance learning programs.
Vladimir Kutuzov, rector of Saint Petersburg Electrotechnical University “LETI,” mentioned that one of the most difficult things was attracting leading international professors. However these activities are extremely important. Universities` heads appreciated motivated newcomers who were ready to contribute to universities` development, invent fresh ideas and participate in academic activities.
The goal of Project 5-100 is to maximize the competitive position of leading Russian universities in the global research and education market. It aims to assist at least five Russian universities to enter the world`s top-100 universities. 5-100 Academic Excellence Project`s activity covers 20 Russian universities. Their achievements are evaluated by such prestigious rankings as Times Higher Education World University Rankings, QS World University Rankings and Shanghai Academic Rankings of World Universities.
