The meetings with the Russian Centre of Science and Culture in Yerevan and members of the leading universities of Armenia were held during the visit. The parties agreed to establish some joint educational programs.
"The scientific and educational cooperation between the two countries has a great potential. We have a common Soviet Union past: many people grew up with the soviet textbooks, remember the Russian language and speak it," Olga Rumyantseva says, the head of the ITMO University International Activities Department, the member of the delegation.
The ITMO University staff discussed the question of the joint master's programs creation in the field of optics, bio-engineering and IT with the local scientific community in the Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) University.
"The Slavonic University is the Russian institution in the foreign country. There are several such universities and their support is one of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation priorities," Irina Shcherbakova comments, the head of the ITMO University Educational and Extracurricular Activities Department.
At a meeting with colleagues from the State Engineering University the ITMO University staff signed a cooperation agreement and discussed the launching of joint master's programs, including those within the CIS Network University - the partnership program of the Commonwealth countries universities.
 
The included training in the food technologies field became the topic of the meeting with the Armenian National Agrarian University staff.
"Armenia traditionally has been strong in the wine and cheese production, the education in these areas in Yerevan is of the highest quality and our colleagues are competent in brewing and dairy products processing. It is expected that we will exchange students: ITMO University will send several Russian students to the Republic, and their students will come to us," Olga Rumyantseva commented on the agreement.
At a meeting with the staff of the Russian Centre of Science and Culture in Yerevan the parties discussed the quota of the state financed students and the general situation in the education sector.
 
The cooperation with Armenian universities is of strategic interest for the Russian scientific and educational sector. It is expected that an additional impulse to the Russian-Armenian partnership will be given by the meeting of education ministers and the government of Russia and Armenia, which will be held on April 24 in connection with the tragic memorable date - the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.
