The competition was held simultaneously in Saint Petersburg, Barnaul, Tashkent and Tbilisi. Of the thousands of teams that were in the quarterfinals, only 281 have won a ticket to the next stage. The ITMO University opened its doors to 102 teams.
 
Eleven complicated tasks were given to the participants and they were to solve them without spending too much time. The best result was shown by the first team of the ITMO University. The team consisted of Artem Vasiliev, Gennady Korotkevich and Boris Minaev, the North quarterfinal winners, which was held recently in the alma mater. The guys solved nine tasks with penalty time of 761 minutes, thus winning not only the right to act in the final, but also the title of сhampions of Russia in programming. The members of the first team of the Moscow State University became the vice-champions. They solved nine tasks as well but showed a worse time - 930 penalty minutes.
 
According to the total results of competitions in the North-East European semi-final, in the final tournament there will be 15 teams from St. Petersburg, Moscow, Saratov, Kazan, Minsk, Tbilisi and Astana. St. Petersburg will be represented by three teams: the ITMO University, Saint Petersburg State University and Saint Petersburg Academic University.
 
In our city, North-Eastern European semi-final has been held for the 19th years. The students of the ITMO University were winners nine times.
 
According to the rules of the competition, a team of three people with one computer need to solve as many tasks as possible of the proposed ones spending minimal time. The solution of the task is accepted if it passes all the tests, prepared by members of the jury. In case of a tie result, the winner is the team, which spends the less time.
 
"You're already the winners", Vladimir Parfenov said, the dean of the Faculty of information technology and software engineering in ITMO University, the director of the semi-final competitions, when he was welcoming the participants. "You fought with dignity and showed impressive results by going to the semifinals. The participation in such tournaments is a great way to develop the qualities that will be useful for you in your future work in the field of information technologies".
