Application of the ITMO University joined the list of winners by the results of the open public competition of projects for the creation and development of engineering centers and companies. 

The open public competition for the provision of state support for pilot projects for the creation and development of engineering centers on the basis of educational institutions of higher education was announced by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation together with the Ministry of Industry and Trade. 54 applications for participation have been submitted.

September 15, 2014 a meeting of the competition committee was held, where from a total list of candidates 9 winners were named. These included the application of the ITMO University «Engineering company in the direction "Electronics"», scored 8 out of 10 possible points.

The competition of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science was held in order to stimulate the development of innovative high-tech industry and was focused on the educational institutions of higher education that train specialists in the field of engineering. To enter the contest applicants were required to submit a strategic program for the creation and development of the engineering center that meets modern technology requirements.

Project of the ITMO University in the field of telematics and telemechanics for high-tech industries, declared in partnership with Russian industrial companies, aims to provide engineering services in the area of design, manufacture and supply of systems for remote monitoring and control of the parameters of various objects that are required for the software reliability.

This project has broad prospects to access to the market M2M («Machine-to-machine»), which is one of the fastest growing markets in the world with annual growth rates of up to 60% (in Russia - not less than 20%).

The main services that engineering company will provide with the participation of the ITMO University as a founder:

  • development of technical specifications, design and feasibility study for the implementation of monitoring and control systems to meet the specific requirements of the customer;
  • development of the original components and software for monitoring and control systems;
  • production of a series of devices that are tailored to specific customer requirements;
  • logistics management supply, installation and commissioning of the system at the customer site;
  • training engineers for the customer to ensure the skilled operation of the equipment supplied.

Engineering company will be established in 2014 on the basis of an engineering center "Robotics and Instrumentation", acting at the Institute of Innovation at the ITMO University.
